Four Fantasies

Solo Album

On this album, Anna explores the rich and varied repertoire of the piano fantasy, from Beethoven's Sonata quasi una fantasia, "Moonlight", to Scriabin's evocative Sonata No.2 in G sharp minor, (Sonata-Fantasie). Chopin's magisterial Fantaisie in F minor, Op.49, has long been a cornerstone of Anna's repertoire. Here she explores what she calls a "deeply intense and powerful struggle for survival throughout the piece, from the opening Marche funèbre, to the pure chorale-prayer in the middle and closing with a heavenly recitative of the soul." For Anna, the heart of this exploration of the piano fantasy is Schumann's Fantasy Op.17, a work bursting with "passion, tenderness, hope and frustration, agitation and calmness....it is simply the music of heaven".

“The well-dosed tension build-up, the richness of colors that she puts into her playing, the beautiful phrasing, the convincing agogic accents, the pulsating rhythm without unnecessarily distracting accents and the dynamic proportionality.”

- Aart van der Wal, Opus Klassiek

“An exciting set of solo piano works played by Anna Fedorova, captured with superb concert-hall atmosphere by Dutch label Channel Classics.”

- Andrew Everard, Gramophone
